The USF coaches made a Suncoast stop at the USF Sarasota–Manatee campus on their trek around the state recently. Three coaches in different stages of their careers talked to ABC 7 about what’s ahead.
The Around the Horn Tour brought along former Manatee High all-state quarterback Willie Taggart, the 2nd year head football coach. He plans to mine the Suncoast for athletic gold. “Trying to keep them home and trying to show them a place that they can come play and be a part of something special that we are trying to build here.”
The baby of the coaching bunch is Orlando Antigua, the new men’s basketball coach. He has yet to coach a game, but already he is implementing his plan. “We are beating the bushes and working on that. Trying to compose a team that’s going to allow us to develop them, compete hard, and get some wins.”
Jose Fernandez is the winningest basketball coach in USF history, with 243 wins. He has 10 post-season appearances, five 20-win seasons, and he had the pleasure to watch Riverview grad Shantia Grace score over 2,000 points for his Bulls. Continue Reading by Clicking Here
