USF men’s soccer improved to 3-3-2 with a 3 to 0 victory over the Buffalo Bulls on Sunday afternoon. The victory makes it three straight for Coach George Kiefer and his group.
Right before the half, USF was able to take the early lead. Marcus Epps scored his first goal of the season (assist by Melvin Beckett) to put USF ahead 1 to 0 in the 43rd minute. The Buffalo Bulls entered the game with the highest scoring offense in the country, but Spasoje Stefanovic and the defense were able to keep them off the board through the first 45 minutes of the game.
In the second half, the Bulls continued to go on the assault and added to their lead. In the 48th minute, Lindo Mfeka hit a goal (assist to Epps and Ricardo Gomez) after the keeper came out of the net. Mfeka went high with the kick and made it 2 to 0. In the 63rd minute, Gabriel Menescal hit a goal (assisted by Nazeem Bartman) to put USF ahead for good at 3 to 0 (the game was called off with 10 minutes left to go due to lightning in the area). The Bulls won the total shot battle at 11 to 6 as the USF offense continued to go on the attack, which has been the trend during this winning streak. Stefanovic made 3 saves as the USF defense kept Buffalo off the board, handing them their first loss of the year.
The Bulls will now hit the road after four straight home games to begin conference play on Saturday night as they face UCF (game begins at 7 PM). It should be interesting to see how the Bulls continue to their play as they leave Corbett Stadium and hit the road.
