The Bulls, 4-3-2 (1-0), won 2 to 1 over Central Florida last night to keep the winning streak alive and gain some points in this new War on I-4 battle.
In the first half of the game, the Bulls went ahead 1 to 0 in the 19th minute on a goal from Lindo Mfeka (assist to Gonzalo Rodriguez) to give USF lead the early lead. In the 26th minute, the Knights tied it on a goal from Matias Pyysalo to square it up at 1 to 1 entering half time. In that first half, the Knights controlled the pace of the game, but the Bulls were able to get the early edge and forced the Knights to play catch-up.
In the second half half, the Bulls went ahead in the 65th minute on a goal from Rodriguez to put USF ahead 2 to 1 (assist from Mfeka and Nazeem Bartman on the goal). Overall, the Bulls lost the shooting edge at 15 to 7, but that doesn’t matter in the end. USF made it count when it needed to as they extended their winning streak while picking up the first conference victory in the process.
Christian Knight, getting the start in net, made 7 saves and played hard against a relentless Knights’ attack against him throughout the game.
The Bulls will host Clemson (game begins at 7 PM) on Tuesday night at Corbett as they look to make it five in a row. The Bulls are rolling and it’s a lot of fun to watch. Let’s hope they keep it going on Tuesday.
