USF picked up its first conference victory, beating Memphis in four sets (25 to 20, 25 to 16, 20 to 25, and 25 to 18). The Bulls, 10-4 (1-1), had a hitting percentage of .315 while the Tigers could only post a .169 mark overall for the match. This was a solid victory from the start.
Clara Payne had 6 kills, 3 digs, and 3 block assists. Denise Belcher had 5 kills and 5 digs. Dakota Hampton had another great overall game with 14 kills, 2 assists, and 13 digs. Elyse Panick had the big game with 15 kills (.333 hitting percentage), 2 assists and 13 digs. I had mentioned in the last blog that she was a player that really needed to get going and it happened. Alex Mendoza had a monster game, with 6 kills, 41 assists, 13 digs and added 3 block assists. T’ara Austin had 6 kills and 4 digs to round out the top performers in this match for USF.
Catlin Lilly had 9 kills (.242 hitting percentage) and 14 digs for the Tigers on the other side of the net.
The Bulls will take on Cincinnati on Friday night at 7 PM as they try to make it two in a row in league play. The Bearcats took both matches last year, so I would expect USF would like to repay the favor in this first meeting of 2016.
