USF improved to 8-0 with a 3 to 1 win over Old Dominion, ending the non-conference portion of the schedule in perfection. It was quite the night for the Bulls.
In the first half, the Bulls struck first in the 10th minute on a goal from Evelyne Viens, her 8th of the year (assist to Yasmine Hall) to get the scoring going. In the 24th minute, Andrea Hauksdottir hit her third goal of the year (assist to Viens of course) to make it 2 to 0. In the 40th minute, Jackie Stroud hit a penalty kick to put ODU on the board as the two sides would go into half at 2 to 1. ODU led the shot total at 8 to 3 while USF totaled 7 fouls in a fairly sloppy first half for the ladies.
In the second half, the Bulls kept the scoring going as Viens hit her 9th goal of the season in the 63rd minute (assist to Gudr Sigurdardottir) to extend the lead at 3 to 1. ODU led the overall shot total at 22 to just 8 for the Bulls, showing how hard ODU pressed, but USF had Kat Elliott in net. Elliott made 7 saves to help preserve the victory for the Bulls. A side note, USF had 16 fouls in the game (4 for ODU) so it was not a pretty game out there and something that does need to be cleaned up moving forward.
The Bulls will host SMU on Thursday night at 7 PM at Corbett Stadium as they begin AAC play. The Bulls are rolling right now but now it gets real serious with AAC play beginning. The Mustangs will be a tough opening test.
