Tampa – Many questions surrounding USF remain unanswered following week one of the Bulls 2018 fall camp. Thursday’s practice at the Frank Morsani Football Complex highlighted the final preparations before Saturday’s fall scrimmage and USF Football Fan Fest.
Here are some notes from Fall Camp Practice Seven:
— There were quite a few post-play altercations on Thursday afternoon. According to the Tampa Bay Times’ Joey Knight, it wasn’t the first time that occurred during fall camp. At least two broke out on Wednesday during the media open period. Head Coach Charlie Strong made sure his team knew that today’s trash-talk wasn’t tolerated. Whether it was the whole team – or just position groups – there was a lot of running in the back-half of Thursday’s practice. “It was really just the young guys,” said DE Kirk Livingstone. “I think after some time, they’ll learn.”
— Along the offensive line, a couple of freshmen stood out as guys to watch during the rest of camp. Brad Cecil (Bartram Trail, St. John’s Fla.) and Donovan Jennings (Gaither, Tampa) look like guys that could crack the first-team offensive line if a spot were to open up. Both looked solid during some team action.
— Things have really come full circle for DE Greg Reaves. After coming in as a walk-on in 2017’s fall camp, Reaves is looking to have an even bigger impact for the Bulls in 2018. “Last year was all about trying to get and keep the starting job. I knew if I had that job out of camp, I had a really good chance to get a scholarship and take that burden off of my parents. This year, it’s so different – I’m trying to become a leader on this team, to take the reins a little bit,” Reaves said.
— After graduating from Jefferson High School in Tampa, senior DE Juwuan Brown chose the Bulls with the intention of becoming a household name in his hometown. In his senior year, he certainly has the possibility of doing that. “It’s a blessing to still be here,” Brown said. “That’s the reason why I came here, because I’d much rather have a big name in my own city, so I’m really just looking forward to enjoying this year.”
— There is so much depth along the Bulls defensive line, particularly at the end spot. Starting with Livingstone and Kevin Bronson, the Bulls have four “number one” guys, according to defensive ends coach Damon Cogdell. “It’s real good to have that depth,” Cogdell said. “Those guys compete day-in and day-out, and nobody has a job right now, so those guys compete everyday.
