#US2F Recruiting Leftovers + More (February 1st Update)

So much recruiting news and updates to cover from January 12th - 22nd that we needed two articles to cover it, learn about the news that you might've missed over the last few weeks + another possible commit for the Bulls with National Signing Day just around the corner!

#US2F USF Bulls Football Recruiting Class of 2020 Coverage by Mike Cusimano | SoFloBulls.com

From January 12th – January 22nd, #RecruitingMadness swept over the Bay Area as Coach Jeff Scott and staff nailed down seven commitments from all seven guys that took official visits from the 17th to the 19th. All of the news and updates couldn’t fit in one article, so I’m here to deliver the recruiting leftovers that happened during the same 10 day period as well as other recent updates. Without further ado, let’s get after it!

OT Evan Webster Decommits, What Happens Now at OL?

Continuing with the overall decommitment theme of the 2020 class, OT Evan Webster decommitted from the Bulls on January 17th. This was a surprise to most as I expected Webster to sign with USF on National Signing Day. Just like the old G-Eazy album, “These Things Happen” for one reason or another, especially with guys who don’t sign during the Early Signing period. Since his decommitment, Webster has committed to FAMU per Twitter, officially wrapping up his recruitment once the ink dries on his NLI.

In regards to the OL position, the fact that the class has been able to rebound with guys like Cesar Reyes and Uriah Greene (who I will discuss later in the article) makes the Webster decommit less impactful in the long run. OL is one of those positions that you always want numbers at and this class is no exception. Expect more of the same next go around with the 2021 class.

OLB Levontae Camiel Locked In with USF

Per Twitter, OLB Levontae Camiel shut down his recruitment and announced his intentions to sign with USF on NSD. This was big for the coaching staff to keep Camiel being the only LB commit in the class. Crazy to think that this class had 4 other LBs committed at one point or another, but here we are. We’ll have the Camiel player breakdown once he signs, but for now, expect the coaching staff to attack the LB position with vengeance in the next class.

OG Uriah Greene Commits to the Bulls

When you lose several guys at a position in a class, you ideally want to gain those numbers back in some fashion when it’s all said and done. With that being the case, OG Uriah Greene out of Mallard Creek HS (Charlotte, NC) was a nice pull by CJS and staff to step in when other OL recruits have been stepping out. Previously committed to Colorado State back in August, Coach Scott and Co. worked their magic to flip the OG to the Bulls on January 22nd (via Twitter) at a position that needs bodies heading forward. We’re only a few days away from NSD, so expect a full write-up on Greene including player bio, film breakdown, and more in my next article!

Orlando OC/OG in the Mix for NSD

Forget about the theme of decommitments… What about the theme of OL recruits this article? OC David Anderton out of Edgewater HS (Orlando, FL) is next up as a possible commit for the USF OL in the coming days with Anderton’s official visit with the school scheduled this weekend according to Joey Knight of the Tampa Bay Times. Coach Scott and OL Coach Allen Mogridge stopped by the Anderton household on January 27th via Twitter, less than a week after Anderton announced that he will be taking an OV to Tampa. This feels like a good bet if the USF coaching staff extend an offer to the OC/OG from Orlando, bringing the number up to 3 OL commits/signees in the 2020 class. More to come from this in the coming days if all goes well from both sides.

Last One Before You Go…

Competition is key, doesn’t matter what position it is or what guys are currently on the roster in that group. On that note, the special teams room just got a little more competitive with former UTSA/Arkansas kicker Jared Sackett entering the mix after announcing his commitment on Twitter last Saturday. According to 247Sports, Sackett played two seasons at UTSA, making 33 of 41 field goal attempts for the Roadrunners during that time. As the saying goes, “Old Friends, New Places” with Sackett once again linking up with Special Teams Coordinator Daniel Da Prato who recruited the kicker to Arkansas last year with Da Prato on the Chad Morris staff. Due to NCAA transfer rules, Sackett sat out last season with the Razorbacks to be eligible for the 2020 season. With last year being his sit/redshirt year, Sackett should be eligible to play the next two seasons for the Bulls. Another scholarship off the books, the numbers are getting tighter and tighter with NSD only a few days away. Let’s see how it all plays out heading forward!

Leave your thoughts and comments below and be sure to tune in this week for coverage on the National Signing Day signees once everyone signs on the dotted line!
