Top visitors to look in on USF, Taggart

“The upcoming recruiting weekend promises to be huge for South Florida, with several top visitors checking out the program under new head coach Willie Taggart — including a couple who are committed elsewhere.
ESPN 150 offensive linemen (#121) Ira Denson (Madison, Fla./Madison County) and (#144) Denver Kirkland (Miami, Fla/Booker T. Washington) are both scheduled to be at the Tampa school this weekend.
ESPN 300 athlete (#246) Richard Benjamin (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Tech) and three-star defensive lineman Derrick Calloway (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee), both Louisville commitments, also will spend the weekend at USF.
Benjamin is looking forward to hearing Taggart’s plans for the Bulls.
“I like Coach Taggart, so I want to listen to what he has to say,” Benjamin said. “Right now I’m still good with Louisville, so nothing has changed there, but I want to see where USF is heading.”
Benjamin is being recruited as a defensive back by Louisville but could play on either side of the ball. The 6-foot, 195-pound senior recorded three interceptions in the FACA North-South All-Star Game last month.
“Programs seem to like me as an athlete, and I could play on either side in college, so the position doesn’t really matter,” Benjamin added. “It’s all about the relationship with the coaches.”
Calloway, who committed to Louisville less than two weeks ago, is another one to watch, as Taggart has strong ties to Manatee High School from his days playing quarterback there in the mid-90s.”
