USF Basketball-Run With Us Episode One

USF fell 74 to 61 last night to Elon in an ugly second game of the season for Coach Orlando Antigua and his group. Turnovers and awful shooting doomed them from the start as they now begin the season 1-1.

USF was down 39 to 26 after the first half. The Bulls were out-rebounded and out-shot for the first 20 minutes as the offense struggled to find a bucket. USF went through a four minute stretch without a field goal, allowing Elon to build a lead they would never give back.

USF ended up shooting 43% for the game and 4 for 12 from 3-point range. The biggest issue for this group were the turnovers, 19 of them! USF had 16 turnovers against FAMU and but were able to survive. However, Elon is a better team and they took advantage of all the mistakes the Bulls left on the court.

Geno Thorpe had 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists (had 19 points against FAMU, so off to a good start). Tulio Da Silva added 11 points and 9 rebounds. Michael Bibby had 15 points off the bench for the Bulls. Ruben Guerrero had a bad point, being held scoreless (6 rebounds) and fouling out late in the game. This group really need Jahmal McMurray back in the worst way.

Listen, we all weren’t expecting this team to go undefeated, but last night was ugly. They will get a chance to bounce back tomorrow at 7 PM as the Bulls host Rider (game begins at 7 PM). Let’s see if they can bounce back or if this is what we are going to start seeing more and more often.
