We are litty to unveil the ninth edition of our ‘SoFloBulls.com USF Football Highlights Series’ as Bulls ball hawk Ronnie Hoggins prepares for the 2018 Spring Game this Saturday under second year head coach Charlie Strong and defensive coordinator Brian Jean-Mary. Our ‘#BallHogg19 South Florida DB Ronnie Hoggins Highlights 2017’ is a top-shelf concoction of the Broward County native’s biggest plays from the 2017 season.
I have a personal affliction towards Hoggins because I sent his tape and information over to then USF Director of Player Personnel Paul Gonnella for evaluation after watching the 954 standout’s highlights. What’s also interesting is Texas, Charlie Strong offered Hoggins just two days before I sent the email in October of 2014. As they say, the rest is history.
After starting 27 games on the outside, Ronnie Hoggins has adjusted well to covering inside slot receivers in his new role as the Bulls nickel corner, where NFL-bound Deatrick Nichols excelled last season after making a similar move in 2017.
Hoggins matched his breakout 2016 performance in 2017, recording 53 total tackles (45 solo), two interceptions, broke up 8 passes, and 10 passes defended. The Monarch High alumnus has been all over the field for the Bulls during his career, amassing 132 total tackles (106 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions, 17 pass breakups, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, while defending 23 passes. The senior defensive back will be one of the most proven Bulls with 36 games of experience in his prominent and productive collegiate career.
#BallHogg19, aka USF DB Ronnie Hoggins (@RonnieHogginsJr // @ronthedon19), seems to attract the rock like the Kardashian’s attract paparazzi. Hoggins was named Broward’s 8A Defensive Player of the Year by the Sun Sentinel after intercepting 15 passes in 12 games as a senior and returning four for touchdowns during his senior season. Hoggins was also named to the FHSAA’s 2014 Florida All-State 8A First-Team Defense.
Hoggins was rated a 85.11 three-star by 247 Sports, three stars by Scout, a three star 73 by ESPN, and 5.70 three star, 37th best cornerback by Rivals. He also received offers from Texas, Louisville, TCU, Temple, Tulane, Wisconsin, Akron, Bowling Green, Charlotte, Cincinnati, FIU, FAU, Marshall, Massachusetts and Ohio.
The ‘SoFloBulls.com USF Football Highlight Series’ will continue to bring our die-hard USF Football followers a custom collection of reels ranging from individual highlights like the #Interstate11 Marquez Valdes-Scantling tape to compilations riddled with our staff’s handpicked top plays from the 10 win 2017 USF Football season.
