#Stampede21 The Start of Summer Recruiting

It's like clockwork. Just as we start to head into summer, recruiting picks up more than ever. Here's news on two new additions to the #Stampede21 class along with an update on another transfer from the program down below!

USF DB KJ Sails

As we head into the summer months when recruiting normally picks up (who knows, things might be different this time around), here’s the latest update regarding the #Stampede21 additions that has ensued over the past week(s). Without further ado, let’s get after it!

#Stampede21 Class Welcomes P Andrew Stokes to the Bulls!

It’s never too early to look at special teams for a recruiting class, but I must say that landing a punter in the middle of May is interesting nonetheless. The coaching staff landed punter Andrew Stokes (@Stokes4Andrew) from Melbourne, Australia on May 19th with Stokes announcing his commitment to the Bulls via Twitter. Following in the footsteps of current USF punter Trent Schneider who hails from Australia as well, Stokes will enroll at USF in January 2021 according to Joey Knight.

Mike’s Take: With Schneider set to graduate from USF at the end of the 2020 season, this move made all the sense in the world for the special teams department on the roster. Barring that no other transfers are added to the roster (not counting grad transfers that will leave after this season), it looks like the #Stampede21 class has room for another 14 recruits if the staff is able to sign all 7 current commits on Early/National Signing Day.

Current/Former Bulls Comparison: Call it lazy, but Trent Schneider is the perfect player comp to Stokes. Both players can boot the ball and both hail from Prokick Australia which helps student-athletes find college/professional opportunities by kicking.

#Stampede21 Class Welcomes DT Desmond Mamudi to the Bulls!

The DT position is a priority for the coaching staff to fill this class, starting with DT Desmond Mamudi (@DMamudi) who committed to the Bulls on 5/20 via Twitter. The former Steinbrenner Warrior will play his senior season at Carrollwood Day (Tampa, FL), amassing 20 offers to date from schools such as FAU, FIU, Colorado State, Liberty, and Ohio to name a few.

Mike’s Take: This class needs the DT position in the worst way and Mamudi is a great start to get the numbers back up at a position that loses 5 seniors after 2020. If we look at the tape, Mamudi is a big, powerful DT that Steinbrenner lined up everywhere across the DL, especially at nose tackle where the Warriors ran a 3-4 defense most of the time. With a quick first step and active hands to shed blockers at the line of scrimmage, Mamudi was a force to be reckoned with last year and projects well at the next level due to his size and athletic ability at NT/DT.

Current/Former Bulls Comparison: Former Bull Bruce Hector is a nice player comp for Mamudi with both players being athletic DTs that are asked to make plays at the position. Both tackles do a good job of living in the backfield to make plays on the ball carrier, something not all defensive tackles offer if they’re just gap eaters on the line of scrimmage.

#TransferPortalSZN Another Walk-On QB in the Portal

Make that 3 for 3 as every walk-on QB that joined the program in 2019 is in the transfer portal minus Kirk Rygol who received a scholarship to the University of Montana over Memorial Day Weekend. Augie DeBiase is now in the transfer portal after announcing his intentions to transfer from USF on May 23rd via Twitter, leaving the QB room with one walk-on quarterback left in Brenden Cyr who is set to the join the Bulls this fall. We wish Augie nothing but the best in his future endeavors at his next program and many thanks for his contributions to the program over the past year!

Leave your thoughts and comments down below and be sure to tune in later this month when I cover the #United20 Class of 2020 QB Room!
