Welcome to our series chronicling the #22Bullies (The New South Florida) USF recruiting class of 2022. The series will breakdown every single recruit and transfer that signed/committed to officially become a part of Head Coach Jeff Scott’s third recruiting class. Help us welcome DT Jhalin Hobbs to the Bulls!

DT Jhalin Hobbs (Lennard High School)

Committed to the Bulls since August 8th, 2020, Hobbs represents one of two defensive tackles added to the 2022 class with several other defensive tackles added through the transfer portal. Hobbs was ranked as the 202nd best defensive lineman in the 2021 class by 247Sports.com, garnering offers from Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Florida Atlantic, Toledo and more during his recruitment. Hobbs was a grey-shirt last season who officially signed with the Bulls on Early Signing Day in 2021. Jhalin enrolled with the Bulls in January.

During his high school career, Jhalin racked up 81 total tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, and one interception.

Run the Tape:

Good burst off the line of scrimmage, especially when he’s in the backfield. Disruptive lineman who works best when he’s allowed to go up field and not simply “fill in gaps.” Was utilized across the line at the high school level. Good base strength who can knock lineman back if his pad level stays low. Works off blocks well and will consistently use his hands to keep offensive lineman off of him.

Mike’s Take:

Scholarship distribution lists across the college football landscape are still recovering with the NCAA giving all student-athletes an extra year of eligibility and unfortunately for a guy like Hobbs, he became a recruit that was asked to join the program a year later due to numbers at the defensive tackle position. It’s fantastic to see both Hobbs and Williams sign with the program in December and in a defensive tackle group that will be completely revamped with multiple departures this past season, I’m excited to see Hobbs come in and be a factor for the position group. Welcome to the Bulls Jhalin!
