Urban Meyer Offers Palm Bay DT
“Urban Meyer was at it again Wednesday with yet another offer to a defensive lineman.
This time, the two-time national champion went back to his old playground and hit up a junior from The Sunshine State.
It came in the form of ESPN Watch List defensive tackle Travonte Valentine (Palm Bay, Fla./Bayside).
The 6-foot-4, 295-pound Valentine is the sixth defensive tackle offered by the Buckeyes, joining fellow Watch List juniors Andrew Brown, Khairi Clark, Anthony Moten and Elisha Shaw as well as Chris Williams.
He’s also the 18th defensive lineman to pick up an offer from the Buckeyes.
“It feels great,” Valentine said of the offer from the two-time national champion Meyer. “It’s amazing.”
Valentine currently has offers from Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Louisville, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Marshall, Miami (Fla.), Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Florida, Tennessee, USC, Washington and West Virginia.
Valentine committed to Florida on July 29, but re-opened his recruitment on Feb. 17.
As a junior, Valentine recorded 80 tackles — 22 for loss — and had 14 sacks. As a sophomore, he had 80 tackles and 12 sacks.
“I would bring a lot to a team and more,” Valentine said. “I would bring speed and lots of power.””
