USF Head Coach Willie Taggart added the first ‘firm’ QB Commit for the Class of 2014 Monday in the nation’s #26 QB-PP Chase Litton from Wharton HS (Tampa, FL). (Tampa, FL). While Litton shows a big upside given his 6’5/200+ pd. measurables & solid arm strength for the home run, I’m not sold entirely after rumors of poor academic standing surfaced. Something USF Alumni can be proud of lately is the substantial improvement in APR (970 – T-#16 in the BCS). I hope this trend persists, permanently eliminating USF’s negative academic stigma. Don’t get me wrong, Litton is the ideal specimen for a pro-style offense. Taggart’s run-heavy scheme will force a loaded box, opening up the deep shot that Litton effortlessly executes with exceptional touch. It’s time for Litton to buckle down in the classroom. Point & case.
So, what caused Litton’s sudden commitment? I’m certain the debacle this weekend with #55 ATH/QB-DT Quinton Flowers out of Miami Jackson HS triggered Litton’s change of plans. Flowers, an exceptional talent receiving comparisons to BJ Daniels, committed last Friday then abruptly decommitted later the same day. I wish I was joking….. Flowers’ holds numerous offers from the hierarchical elite & USF is said to still be in the mix. Flowers would be a signature get for Team Taggart. Everyone please remember that recruiting isn’t about stars, it’s about talent.
Lately the recruiting process has been nothing more than a media circus with zero certainty. I’ll buy in on national signing day next February when Coach Taggart has the faxed NLI’s in-hand. Even then we really can’t be certain following the recent issue between Matthew Thomas & FSU.
For now the USF faithful better be elated by the work Taggart has done on the recruiting trail from day one. The additions of Telly Lockette and Marquel Blackwell to the staff opened the door to USF’s newfound VIP access to the elite wealth of talent in Tampa & Miami. Buckle up Bulls, we are riding the Taggart Bus now and will continue to roll full steam ahead.

^Be sure to notice at the 1:26 mark when Flowers avoids the pass rush in a BJ Daniels-esk fashion & makes an unbelievable cross body throw down field.
