USF Head Coach Willie Taggart hopped on the American Athletic Conference Football Teleconference Week Four this afternoon to discuss the Bulls 45-20 comeback win over Syracuse, takeaways from the game, the status of Bruce Hector and Khalid McGee, and next week’s opponent Florida State. Below I’ve added some quotes I jotted down from the call.
When asked about the resolve of the USF offense and defense after being down 17-0 in the first quarter to Syracuse, USF Head Football Coach Willie Taggart replied “Talking about it, being prepared for it, really helped our guys not flinch.” Taggart elaborated further, “We [USF] spotted Syracuse 17 points, it would good to see our guys not flinch and stick together.”
When Taggart was asked for his key takeaways from the win over ACC opponent Syracuse he noted, “I think Coach Babers, once he gets the players he wants, they [Syracuse] will be scary to play.”
“I think coming out and outscoring them [Syracuse] 45-3 in the second half was a great sign.”
“Auggie [Sanchez] is the quarterback of our defense. He’s a war daddy. He’s a blue collar guy that will be out there making the tackles we need him to make.”
Taggart’s comment when asked about this week’s opponent in the No. 13 Florida State Seminoles, “Tough challenge this week at Raymond James in Tampa, but we are up for it.”
When asked if defense tackle Bruce Hector and defensive back ‘Striker’ Khalid McGee would be back Saturday against FSU, Coach Taggart responded, “I sure do. How could you miss a ball game like this!” That being said, Taggart is not looking at Florida State as the ‘big game’, it’s simply the next game on USF’s schedule.
