Welcome to the latest installment of our new series, “Welcome New Bulls!”. This series is devoted to discussing each position group in the USF recruiting class of 2019 and my expectations for each player as they prepare for their first collegiate season adorning green and gold for our beloved Bulls. While it’s difficult to predict exactly how much each true freshmen will contribute on the field in year one at the collegiate level, I’ll take a stab at it based on the most current USF roster available. Without further ado, let’s get the show on the road!

As the season inches closer and closer to the Wisconsin game on August 30th, let’s take a closer look at the class of 2019 quarterback room, which includes just one quarterback commit in Jahquez Evans (@_2lilquez) out of Atlanta’s Mays High School. After revisiting his Hudl film, Evans showed the ability to beat a defense with both his arm and legs during his final campaign at Mays in 2018. USF has landed a true ‘dual-threat QB’ that will be utilized in both facets at the next level, especially under #PlayFastScoreFaster offensive coordinator Kerwin Bell who will craft his offense accordingly no matter what “style” QB is under center (or under shotgun for that matter.)

As for the 2019 season, I fully expect Evans to come in as the defacto QB three with Blake Barnett and Jordan McCloud holding down the first two spots to start the season next month. A redshirt year looks to be in the cards for Evans in 2019, giving him a great opportunity to hone his craft and get a good feel for the pace of the college game before the 2020 season opens the door for other quarterbacks to take the reins of the offense.
