We’ve got another FAT update on our hands here covering all of the transfer portal additions and #Stampede21 commits over the last month in Part Two of the update. Without further ado, let’s get after it!
#TransferPortalSZN – From Duval to Tampa, OL Alec Valet Joins the Bulls
Things don’t always go the way that you expect them to go and I’m sure OL Alec Valet (@AlecMichael407) found that out after Jacksonville University discontinued its football program in December 2019 unfortunately… Valet joins the Bulls roster with 3 years of eligibility left after spending two seasons in Duval with a redshirt season in 2018. According to Will Turner at Bulls247, Valet received interest from Power Five program Indiana with visits to IU, Campbell, Robert Morris, and Valparaiso before committing to the Bulls in mid-April via Twitter. Mike’s Take: Just like DL depth, I love me some OL depth as well. I’ll be curious to see how this OL comes together come fall camp where someone like Valet could vault themselves into the two-deep on the depth chart depending on how the RG and RT starting spots shake out. I like grad transfers for their immediate eligibility and expectation to make an impact on the field, but I also like the “long-term eligibility” transfers like Valet that have an opportunity to grow into a role for the Bulls for several years to come as well.
#Stampede21 Welcomes QB Timmy McClain to the Class!
It was inevitable that the 2021 class was going to land a QB at some point. In steps QB Timmy McClain (@jahqueal9) out of Sanford, FL (Seminole) who committed to the Bulls on April 19th via Twitter. Ranked as the #38 Dual-Threat QB in the country, McClain currently holds offers from Boston College, Kentucky, Louisville, West Virginia, and UCF to name a few. Mike’s Take: Before the 2021 class got off and running, I initially believed that the staff had no plans to add a QB this class with Cade Fortin added as a transfer along with Jordan Smith and Katravis Marsh coming in from the 2020 class. As recruiting got rolling, the more and more it seemed like USF was destined to find a QB this class. With McClain’s skill set, the staff should be more than happy to have him in this class, adding to an already strong QB room that seems better positioned for the future than ever before.
#Stampede21 Welcomes TE Gunnar Greenwald to the Class!
With Mitch Wilcox headed off to the Bengals, it only made sense that the #Stampede21 class would include a TE in it. Via Twitter, TE Gunnar Greenwald out of Satellite Beach, FL (Satellite) committed to the Bulls on April 22nd, becoming the second offensive player committed to the class behind Timmy McClain thus far. With 27 offers in tote, the 49th ranked TE in the country currently holds offers from Indiana, Miami, NC State, UCLA, and Louisville to name a few. Mike’s Take: Greenwald adds to a TE room that is building for the future. After Jacob Mathis, the staff will be left to decide who takes the reins next and I wouldn’t be surprised if Greenwald finds himself on the field early for USF much like Mitch Wilcox did in his first two seasons. I’ll be curious to see if OC Charlie Weis Jr. features the TE position here just like he did at his last stop at FAU as he certainly has the talent coming up through the ranks to do so. Leave your thoughts and comments below and be sure to tune in later this month when I cover #Stampede21 Class Defense To-Do List (Part Two)!
