Welcome to our series chronicling the #JustWork (as we’re calling it) USF Recruiting Class of 2023. The series will breakdown every single recruit that signed to officially become a part of Head Coach Alex Golesh’s first recruiting class. Help us welcome OL James Jenkins to the Bulls!
OL James Jenkins (Carrollwood Day)
Committed to the Bulls on December 21st, 2022, Jenkins represents one of eight offensive linemen added to the 2023 class with Nikola Milovac, Deonte Bowie, Drew Perez, Timothy Lawrence, Cole Skinner, Derek Bowman, and RJ Perry coming along for the ride as well. Via 247Sports.com, Jenkins was ranked as the 91st best interior offensive lineman in the class, garnering offers from Cincinnati, Cal, Colorado, Duke, Miami and more during his recruitment. Jenkins spent time committed to Cincinnati before ultimately signing with the Bulls in December.
Run the Tape:
Moves well for his size. From a technique standpoint, Jenkins is very sound as a run and pass blocker. Quick feet will allow for Jenkins to be more than effective against speed rushers at the next level. Hand placement can stun the opposition and create an advantage for Jenkins when his balance is off. As mentioned previously, Jenkins ability to move makes him a perfect fit for offenses that ask for their linemen to move downfield on a consistent basis.
Mike’s Take:
Always a big fan of bringing in #BayMade guys, but I’m even more excited for trench guys that look the part at the high school level. Jenkins flashes the ability to be a starter on the offensive line and should be counted on in the run and pass game over the next few years. As it always is with #TeamTrench, how these recruits are able to develop their game for the next level is something to keep an eye on. For an offensive line that has lost a number of guys to graduation, it could open the window for players like James Jenkins to see playing time early. Welcome to the Bulls James!
