On Sept. 9th, 2023, the South Florida Bulls took the field at Raymond James Stadium for the first time this season. Lead by Redshirt Freshman Quarterback Byrum Brown, the Bulls looked to secure their first victory under new Head Coach Alex Golesh.

Under the lights at a 7:00PM kickoff, and in front of an announced attendance of 36,495, Brown and his Offense torched Florida A&M.

Brown completed 20 of his 34 passes for a total of 197 yards and three touchdowns. He did not throw an interception.

Of his 20 completions, he completed at least one pass to 10 different Wide Receivers. Wide Receiver Sean Atkins lead the way with receptions with five. Recent transfer, Wide Receiver Naiem Simmons, had the most receiving yards with 59. Oh by the way, Atkins also completed one pass for 39 yards to Running Back Michel Dukes.

Touchdowns were caught by Naiem Simmons, Tight End Jayson Littlejohn, and Wide Receiver Khafre Brown. Simmons’ touchdown electrified the crowd. Brown threw him a beautiful ball right over his shoulder with just under seven minutes left in the Fourth Quarter.

On the ground, five different players carried the ball. Leading the charge was Running Back Michel Dukes with 13 carries for 40 yards (3.1 yards/carry). Brown, in addition to his three passing touchdowns, also ran in two on his own.

Moving Forward

This Saturday, September 16th, 2023, the Bulls will take on legendary coach, Nick Saban, and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Though the Crimson Tide just lost to the Texas Longhorns, USF will need to step up their game offensively as they face the country’s 10th ranked team (Associated Press).  The Tide will be looking to avenge last week’s loss and the Bulls will look to keep their momentum driving from last week.

See you all at Ray Jay on Saturday!
