USF Class of 2024 Chronicle: WDE Ryan Jenkins

Remember... It starts up front!

Welcome to our series chronicling the 2024 USF Recruiting Class! This series will breakdown every single recruit that signed to become a part of Head Coach Alex Golesh’s first full recruiting class. (Having a full year to put a class together.) Help us welcome WDE Ryan Jenkins to the Bulls!

WDE Ryan Jenkins (Westover School – Albany, GA)

Committed to the Bulls on July 19th, Jenkins is one of eight defensive linemen committed to the 2024 class as Golesh and Co. clearly made the position group a priority this year. Via Rivals.com, Jenkins received offers from Boston College, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Iowa State, Army and more during his recruitment.

Run the Tape:

Long arms prevent offensive lineman from getting their hands on Jenkins at the point of attack. Possesses a good arsenal of pass rush moves coming from the high school level who will benefit early on in his collegiate career from being active with his hands at the position. Impressive closing speed to the ball carrier who moves well as an edge defender. As such, the potential to drop him back in coverage (such as covering the flats) is there. High IQ player on the defensive line who showed the ability to diagnose an offensive play quickly and/or showed willingness to contain off the edge when asked to do so.

Mike’s Take:

One of my favorite recruits of the class, Ryan Jenkins has the potential to make an impact on the defensive line quickly based on how he develops at the next level. His high-school tape reminds me a lot of current USF Bull Tramel Logan who became a valuable addition to the Bulls DL early on in his career. As with any player in the trenches, development is key as the jump from HS to Division 1 football is no walk in the park. Nonetheless, Jenkins could see playing time early on and is an exciting addition to a Bulls defense that wants to wreak havoc at the line of scrimmage. Welcome to the Bulls Ryan!
