USF Class of 2024 Chronicle: RB Nykahi Davenport

Behind every good offense is a good running back...

RB Nykahi Davenport

Welcome to our series chronicling the 2024 USF Recruiting Class! This series will breakdown every single recruit that signed to become a part of Head Coach Alex Golesh’s first full recruiting class. (Having a full year to put a class together.) Help us welcome RB Nykahi Davenport to the Bulls!

RB Nykahi Davenport (Roswell – Roswell, GA)

Committed to the Bulls on November 10th, Davenport is one of two running backs committed to the 2024 class (as it stands now). Via Rivals.com, Davenport received offers from Cincinatti, Indiana, NC State, Charlotte, East Carolina and more during his recruitment.

Via MaxPreps.com, Davenport ran for 1,756 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns during his senior season at Roswell, posting similar numbers the year prior with 1,904 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground.

Run the Tape:

Slasher-style running back who picks his way through a defense at all levels. Good finishing speed to take runs to the house. Great hands who proved to be an asset out of the backfield as a receiver for Roswell. Possesses the vision and patience to be successful at the next level. Willing blocker who could be effective in pass protection if coached properly. Impressive balance when absorbing contact. Has the tools to be a solid yards after contact runner where his skillset will prove to be invaluable at the next level.

Mike’s Take:

Bulls fans got a good idea of the offense that Alex Golesh wants to run in 2023, but I’m not sure if enough emphasis was placed on how important the rushing attack was to the success of the offense. We saw a number of guys tote the rock for the Bulls last season such as Nay’Quan Wright and it became evident as the season progressed that this was an area on offense that will not be pushed to the side by offensive coordinator Joel Gordon. As such, I can’t emphasize the importance of having a well-rounded backfield with the addition of Davenport who has the ability to be on the field for all three downs as a runner and pass catcher. The future is bright for this Bulls backfield as Davenport will have a large role in it over the next few years. Welcome to the Bulls Nykahi!
